Inventory Transfer Order with In-Transit

This guide outlines the three-stage process for moving inventory between two locations (Warehouse A to Warehouse B) while accurately accounting for the stock when it is on the move.

1. General System Configuration (The Prerequisites)

The key to this process is the In-Transit Location. This is a special, virtual location created in your system that serves as a temporary financial and logistical holding space.

To define the In-Transit Location, you must first create it within the Locations and Registers application. After creation, you can designate this specific location as the official In-Transit Location within the system settings. Only one location can be assigned this specific In-Transit function .

In the WMS settings application, you must also define the In-Transit Location to enable accurate tracking of inventory between warehouses. There is also separate setting that allows you to exclude specific locations from automatically utilizing this in-transit routing

2. Step-by-Step Workflow

2.1 Creation and Commitment (Source Location A)

User Action: The user at Warehouse A creates the Inventory Transfer Order in the Inventory Transfers application, specifying the items and quantities to be moved from Source Location A to Destination Location B.

2.2 Shipment and Departure (Source Location A)

User Action: The warehouse staff at Location A receives the transfer order as a picking task. They pick the required items from the physical shelves and validate/finish the inventory transfer order in the WMS

Inventory Impact: The system automatically executes two movements:

Source A On-Hand Stock DECREASES.

The stock quantity is virtually moved into the In-Transit Location.

2.3 WMS: Tracking and Receipt (Destination Location B)

User Action: Once the goods physically arrive at Location B, the receiving user opens the WMS, navigates to the "In-Transit" Inventory Transfers or Goods Receipt screen, finds the relevant order, and Receives the goods.

Inventory Impact: The system automatically executes two final movements:

The quantity is virtually removed from the In-Transit Location.

Destination B Stock INCREASES.

Final Status: The Transfer Order status is updated to Fulfilled.
